Community Development & Empowerment 🤝

Overview

Kirisia Community Forest Association (K-CFA) is dedicated to empowering communities while safeguarding the Kirisia Forest. Many households in Samburu rely on forest resources for survival, creating a pressing need for alternative livelihoods that protect the environment and uplift families. Through community-driven projects, training, and partnerships, K-CFA is enabling residents to transition to eco-friendly sources of income while reducing pressure on the forest.

Key Initiatives

• ✅ Beekeeping & honey production – supporting over 550 hives to boost local incomes 🐝
• ✅ Tree nurseries & agroforestry – four central and seven village nurseries supplying seedlings 🌱
• ✅ Poultry & kitchen gardens – enhancing household food security 🐔
• ✅ Eco-tourism & cultural tourism – including the Tamiyoi Camp to promote conservation-linked livelihoods ⛺
• ✅ Alternative businesses – providing microfinance and training for former charcoal burners 💰
• ✅ Education & awareness – training community members on sustainable resource use 📚

Impact

• 🌿 600,000+ KES disbursed to support eco-friendly community businesses.
• 🐝 Hundreds of beekeeping hives producing honey for local and regional markets.
• 🌳 Tree nurseries producing seedlings for reforestation and household planting.
• 👩‍👩‍👧 Dozens of households adopting kitchen gardens and poultry for food and income security.
• 🌍 Reduced dependence on unsustainable forest products, protecting Kirisia Forest.
